Angel At The Top Of The Tree

It’s almost Christmas and finally my tree is up. Perched on top is the most beautiful angel, looking down over the ornaments collected through the years keeping an ever watchful eye on my 2010 Christmas.

I may have just pulled him out of storage but something tells me he has been perched on top of my tree all year, looking down at all the stories I have collected and keep an ever watchful eye over my life and all the things I wish to change about it.

How many times do we complain about one aspect of our lives that we wish to change? I want my business to improve. I want to get fit. I want to have a relationship. I want to make more money. I want more. I want. This list is endless.

How many times have we asked for something and thought we haven’t received it and said: “When will it be MY turn?” “When will I get what I want?” “What about me?”
What if you recognized that there was an angel perched on the top of your tree all year and you just hadn’t given him the time of day?

We make a wish.
We make a choice.

Then invariably we attract an angel into our life – someone to assist us with our challenge to facilitate the transformation we have indeed wished for. This angel simply hands us all the information, structure, resources and support that we will need to make this change.
So how many times do we actually take the action required to make use of this incredible information, structure, resource and support? How often do we appreciate this gift and opportunity by following through with action steps – actually DOING something?

How much accountability do we take for our own wish? How much responsibility do we take for our own choice?

How many of us want the angel that we attracted into our lives to take the action on our behalf, hold us accountable and take responsibility for our own story? When they don’t, how often do we devalue their exceptional skill, talent and gift? How many times do we blame the angel?

Look around – see who that person is for you – identify your angel. Trust me they are there standing in front of you. See who it is? They love you enough to stand right under your nose, hold out their arms to offer their heart to you.  In the first bloom of infatuation, you’ve said something to the angel like “I was ready and you showed up.” Yet when we look closer at the angel and we see our own reflection,  we push them away, ignore them, avoid them, criticize them – anything to distract ourselves from the pain of our own little story.

How easy is it to forget that we have an angel at the top of our tree and simply smash the mirror rather than look directly into it?! :-)

But remember that you asked for this. You drew this person – this angel – into your life. Now they are here, you back away from your wish. You find every reason under the sun why “This doesnt feel right!!” “It’s not meant to be!” “It’s not you it’s me!” “I’m not getting that this is right thing for me”. (insert more bullshit excuses here!)

But guess what? This is the whole point of change. For a butterfly, the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for it to get through the small opening of the cocoon is an effective strategy to force fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

But remember, all your wannabe butterflies out there - you asked for this. You took that first step and asked for what you want. So take the next step and look your story squarely in the face and thank it for slapping you out of your complacency and giving you this opportunity to explore it even further.

Expect it to be painful and annoying and inconvenient.
Expect it to feel uncomfortable.
Expect it to be confronting and a real pain in the ass.
Expect it to not feel right.
Expect it to feel unfamiliar and wrong as the fluid forces through your body!
Expect to feel unhinged, uncertain and totally out of control!
Expect it to suck as you struggle your way out of the cocoon!

And that angel who came into your life to support you in this transformation? The angel that has been perched at the top of your tree all year? Appreciate  their service to you in fair exchange. See their beauty.  See their value. Feel the joy they bring to your life. It is a privilege for you to have had this angel perched at the top of your tree all this time. All the angel wants in exchange is love, appreciation and gratitude in whatever form is most important to both of you.

Now get off your ass, step out of your comfort zone and take action by utilizing the resources around you, stop whining and make your own wish come true this Christmas!
You are not alone.

There’s an angel at the top of your tree!

Disclaimer: I am writing this to myself and thanking the team of angels in my life giving me everything that I need. Love you guys xxx
